Indoor tracking often doesn't need satellite positioning — Vision Telematics can place gateway devices at known fixed positions in a building, and Bluetooth tags then report each asset as being within ~30 m of the nearest gateway. Indoor tracking does require NB-IoT network coverage at the site. Outdoor-only assets can use a smaller, cheaper GPS device.
Periodic = 4 location pings per day — simple daily visibility, longest battery life. Movement / Trip based reports position while the asset moves (configurable default: every 15 min for standard trackers, every 5 min for long-life trackers, based on 20 hours of movement per week) — richer journey detail, shorter battery life.
Standard devices are optimised for EU and UK LTE-M / NB-IoT networks. Global variants add worldwide cellular band coverage with 2G fallback. Country-level certification still applies — confirm target markets with Vision Telematics.
Where two devices both fit, this decides which to favour. Lower cost picks the more affordable device; longer battery life picks the longer-lasting (usually larger) device.
Some assets have limited mounting space, or need the tracker concealed. If size matters, the wizard recommends the smallest device that still meets your other requirements. The range runs SL-0001/0002/0003-PT (smallest, 149×51×21 mm) → SL-0007/0008-PT (108×86×31 mm) → SL-0011/0012-PT (largest, 222×91×41 mm).
Bluetooth Gateway devices read nearby BLE ID tags and wireless sensors (temperature, humidity, door open/close). One BLE gateway device can receive data from up to 200 tags. Useful for cold chain, container fleets and grouped-asset tracking.
Every device on this path is certified to ATEX / IECEx Zone 0 and sealed to IP68 + IP69K. The choice comes down to the network you have on site — and how often you need the asset to report.
All three are waterproof, need no gateway of your own, and are located over the crowdsourced Bluetooth network — every participating phone that passes within range reports the tag's position.
